Oktoberfest #1: What is Oktoberfest??!!

Oktoberfest is the world of dreams for the beer-drinkers.

Oktoberfest is the heaven for all the drinkers (tasty drinks + German sausage + whole roasted beef/chickens = Fantastic!!!)

Oktoberfest is also a wonderland for your kids: huge amusement park, music, and with all the people in cute & dreamy costumes…

This world largest festival held annually in Munich, Germany, has long history since 1810. More than 6million people attend to the festival, over 7.5 million liters of beer (!!), 200,000 sausages, 100 whole roasted beefs, or more than 505,000 chickens are consumed during 16days, starting from the first Saturday after September 15th.

Oktoberfest takes place in a huge area called Theresienwiese (meadow of Therese), often called Wiesen, in the center of Munich. The size of the area: 42 hectares/0.42km2/103acres is just as the same size as Vatican city (0.44km2).

Only beer conforming to the Reinheitsgebot/German Beer Purity Law: the only ingredients that could be used in the production of beer were water, barley and hops, will be served (my friends, aka beer-lovers, this sounds great, no?).

There are 14 big tents (Festhalle) and 21 small tents (Wiesnzelt) on Munich Octoberfest. They open at 9am during weekdays/ at 10am on weekends, and close at 11:30pm. Only the wine tent is open until 1 am.
Sounds a little bit too early? Don't worry. If you start drinking around noon or early afternoon, you will drink mugs and mugs, and mugs of beer to the dregs by then.

The entrance to all the tents is free and you will only pay when purchase beer, food, or to use play equipment.

Where exactly the Theresienwiese/the fest? Please click here.
