New York: Spring parades in New York

Long, dark, and icy winter in New York is about to leave (we hope so.)

Once March starts, as if to prove it, the city gets packed with parade after parade.
Now let’s find out how we can celebrate the long-awaited arrival of spring!

St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Enjoy one of the world’s biggest St. Patrick’s Day parade, which started in 1762! Entire city will be colored in green: green cloth, green hats & wigs, face paints, or even green-colored cookies and cupcakes. Oh, the famous “I heart NY” logo T-shirt will be taken over from green “I shamrock NY” T-shirt.

When: Saturday, March 16th

New York City Half Marathon

10,000 runners race through the streets of New York City. Starting in the Central Park, run through 7th Avenue, Times Square, Broadway, then finish at the Lower Manhattan, where Statue of Liberty welcomes the runners.

When: Sunday, March 17th

Easter parade
Long, freezing, and depressing winter in New York is over. Celebrate the arrival of spring with the outfits, bonnets, accessories inspired by flowers, Easter peeps, bunnies, eggs, or anything very spring. This is not really a “parade”. They close off 5th Avenue between 49th and 57th Street, and New Yorkers wander the street admiring these creative, cute, and beautiful outfits of others.

When: Sunday, March 31st
