Banff Winter Resorts: the wonder and beauty of the Canadian Rockies
Just 1.5 hour drive from Calgary, the Canadian Rockies suddenly appear in front of you. It is a world UNESCO Heritage site, and it never stops fascinating people who come to discover the wonder of nature.
Located in the heart of Banff National Park, which is in the Canadian Rockies, there are three world class ski resorts for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. There, fantastic experience is be guaranteed: one of the longest ski seasons in North America (from November to May), best quality of snow, plenty of chutes and steeps, and, breathtaking views.
Now let’s see what you can enjoy in the three ski resorts are Mt. Norquay, Sunshine Village, and Lake Louise Ski Area.
Mt. Norquay
Only 15 minutes by car/shuttle from downtown Banff. Though it is smaller in scale compare to the other 2 resorts, almost 45% of the terrains are steep and for the experienced skiers. You also can enjoy night skiing every Friday.
Are you a beginner? Don’t worry. There are some slopes for beginners and intermediate levels.
This resort is also recommended if you want use time wisely combined with other activities such as sightseeing in Banff and shopping because of its close proximity from downtown and a variety of hourly tickets.
Also if you (or, quite possibly your kids) get tired of skiing or snowboarding, there are other activities to enjoy: tubing and snow shoeing.
For more information, please visit the official website of Mt. Norquay.
Sunshine Village
Why Sunshine Village is so attractive? The reason is its altitude, beauty of wild nature, and (and of course) the dry and powder-fine aspirin snow.
After 30 minutes by car/shuttle from downtown Banff, you will get in the world’s longest gondola. Stepping off the gondola at the village where you transfer to the ski lifts to the 3 mountains, you will feel as if you can go 360-degree anywhere. It’s already higher than timberline, thus nothing will cut off the view.
If you are beginner, Strawberry chair or Standish chair will be recommended. Though the slopes are shorter in comparison to the others, they are rich in variety and surely enjoyable.
If you are experienced, take the Continental Divide Express to the top of the Lookout Mountain where you might feel dizzy because of the altitude of the mountain.
For more information, please visit the official website of Sunshine Village.
Lake Louise
Spectacular scenery awaits you at Lake Louise: the most beautiful ski resort in North America. As skiing, you will experience a bird-eye view of Lake Louise and beautiful mountains of the Canadian Rockies.
Here you can find the photos from the Lake Louise Ski Area.
